NEW MARINE DISCOVERY CENTRE OPENED BY FOUR SEASONS MALDIVES LANDAA GIRAAVARU
The new Marine Discovery Centre at the Four Seasons Maldives Resort at Landaa Giraavaru has been opened and the local community is very impressed with the result. The center has been completely redesigned and it enjoys state-of-the-art technology, as well as a fish lab, a center dedicated to turtle rehabilitation and a research station under the guidance of Manta Trust. Moreover, the center has a coral rejuvenation program in place.
Visitors will have access to an indoor exhibition, where big screens and interactive presentations will introduce them to the fascinating underwater world of the Maldives. The guests will also find interesting information about coral reefs, fish breeding and drowning islands.
The kids will be happy to know that a large aquarium will be there to allow them to have face-to-face meetings with marine creatures, and there will also be a kids’ touch tank. The turtle tanks present in the center will not only allow visitors to enter the world of turtles, but they will also tell stories about turtle rehabilitation.
Visitors are invited to become an active part in helping injured turtles and getting involved in projects dedicated to saving the coral reefs and their underwater creatures. There are 15 marine scientists and researchers who work in the center, participating in conservation projects.
The team working at the Marine Discovery Centre has already been involved in the transplantation of 300,000 coral fragments on 5,000 coral frames, as well as rescuing and rehabilitating over 149 sea turtles and breeding thousands of reef fish.
